PATHOLOGY CONTRACT RESEARCH CENTER

The PCRC contracts with private and public organizations that leverage our extensive research expertise, state-of-the-art technology, and cost effective academic pricing options. Our clients have ranged from some of the world’s largest corporations to smaller regional companies and biotech startups. Clients retain intellectual property through laboratory service contracts (LSA) and consulting arrangements performed under a nondisclosure agreement. The PCRC leverages several unique functions:

Specialized research expertise and insight:

Unlike traditional CROs, PCRC staff provide comprehensive integrated research services accompanied by data interpretation and troubleshooting services to assist with critical Go/No-Go decisions. Our clients leverage a research staff with vast knowledge and experience in a broad range of disciplines including cancer biology, inflammation, neurobiology, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. The PCRC is comprised of over 70 faculty researchers that work cooperatively within UCSD’s world renowned research enterprise. Our experienced researchers will work closely with the company, from experimental design through to delivery of results. PCRC services are more cost-effective compared to industrial CROs and include the utilization of specialized expertise of the faculty and/or specialized instrumentation. Confidentiality: The PCRC also understands the importance of confidentiality at all stages of discussions and, where appropriate, we will happily assist in putting in place formal confidentiality agreements to ensure that your intellectual property is fully protected in terms of any confidential and/or commercially sensitive projects you wish to discuss and/or implement.

Specialized state-of-the-art facilities and equipment:

The PCRC allows our clients to leverage at academic pricing a wide range of specialized research laboratories, equipment and core facilities to meet their experimental milestones. The PCRC is the nexus of faculty research laboratories, clinical laboratories, and the UCSD Health Sciences system, which operates as an integrated delivery network throughout the San Diego area. Also, the PCRC allows our clients to leverage state-of-the-art IUCUC approved animal facilities, surgical suites, and clinical equipment to meet their specialized preclinical and clinical needs.

Access to preclinical animal models of disease:

The PCRC network of researchers encompass a broad spectrum of animal models of disease that span from transgenic zebrafish models of vascular disease to genetically engineered mouse models of cancer, inflammation, and neurobiology. Over the years, our clients have extensively leveraged our diverse animal model systems, unique animal facilities, and academic pricing for product development and testing.

Phase I/II SBIR/STTR consulting and subcontracts:

PCRC researchers have extensive expertise with writing and development of federally funded grant applications for business development such as the Phase I/II SBIR/STTR programs. Our clients subcontract the PCRC to produce preliminary data and establish critical expert collaborations necessary to obtain funding in the competitive landscape.
